Croaghan Way -anyone fancy a walk in the country?
Celebrate the launch of the Bogs of Ballymoney project with this more challenging 3-4 mile walk on the Croaghan Way, within the Antrim Coast & Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This event offers participants the opportunity to experience the beauty of one of Ballymoney’s bog land areas, one of a few within a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest. It is an area of blanket bog and montane heath dominated by heather with cross-leaved heath and hare’s tail cottongrass. Hen harrier and merlin are found in the area. There is one steep hill climb, including open heath/moorland terrain which will be marshy underfoot.
A moderate to good level of fitness is required for this event. Walkers must bring warm, waterproof clothing/footwear and carry refreshments. Assembly point: Altarichard Car Park, Altarichard Road at 6.30pm accessed via the Orra Scenic Route.
