Canadian visitors remember Catherine in Rathfriland
A group of visitors from the City of Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada were welcomed by the Rathfriland Regeneration Group, recently to see the unveiling of an important statue.
They visited the area to witness the unveiling of a statue of Catherine Schubert, nee O’Hare, originally from Rathfriland, the first European woman to enter British Columbia, overland from eastern Canada in the 1800’s. She remained an important part of the community until her death on July 18, 1918.
Looking on are Lord Mayor, Cllr Garath Keating, Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper and Andrew Peters of Rathfriland Regeneration Group.
