In the dock was Larry Farren (31), of Clarendon Street, in the Cityside, who pleaded guilty to a number of charges including common assault, possession of cocaine and cannabis as well as a charge of assaulting a ‘‘police designated person. The Court was told the offences were committed on December 24, last year. Londonderry Magistrates Court was told that Farren had assaulted his neighbour by reaching for him around the head and holding him. The Prosecution said that another neighbour had to intervene after several minutes and police were called to the scene. The Court heard Farren was arrested and during a subsequent search police found cocaine and cannabis in his possession. It was at this point that Farren then hit a civilian detention officer in the face using a pair of jeans which had been rolled. Deferring sentence until January of next year, District Judge Peter King told Farren that he should “focus on your addiction issues”. He went on to tell Farren if there were any further offences “all sentencing options are open to the court”.
