Detailing the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Thanks to combined efforts, we’re relieved to tell you two teenage girls were rescued from Belfast’s Cave Hill yesterday evening. The friends got lost when walking, with darkness and a dip in temperature adding to their distress.
“It’s thanks to the quick actions of our Call Management team, Community Rescue Service Belfast District and our local officers that the pair were located.

“This one’s a good news story, but we’re asking you all – from intrepid explorers to strollers – to take care – especially with the pressures on our Health Service colleagues.
“Weather conditions can change quickly, and the evenings turn dark in a flash. So think before you head off; make sure you are dressed appropriately; that loved ones know where you’re going; and that your phone is fully charged. Please stay safe.”
