In-house tournament goes down a treat
But as the days shorten, the air sharpens and the school run re-commences, the members of Banbridge Tennis Club heralded the beginning of the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness with an in-house tournament.
Ladies’ Captain Jean Campbell, assisted by Peter Hillen, organised an excellent competition that allowed new players to gain confidence from playing with more experienced competitors, so that everyone, from novice to seasoned campaigner had the chance of a win.

A gripping ladies’ final rollercoasted its way to a dramatic conclusion as the score repetitively ricocheted from deuce to advantage and back.
Competitors earlier in the evening, now turned spectators, cheered as eventually Jane Boyce and Gladys Montgomery emerged victorious with impressive newcomer Mary Loy runner-up.
Many thanks to all who turned up, to Jean and Peter for organising the order of play and to Men’s Captain Steven Smith who helped select the prizes.
