Henry was the son of James and Margaret McMurran and brother of Martha, Maggie, Agnes, George and James, all of Sullatober Row.

Hide AdHenry McMurran, Councillor Stewart noted, was the first naval man from Carrickfergus to be lost during the Great War after the cruiser HMS Cressy was torpedoed by German U-Boat U-9 in the North Sea.
Councillor Stewart is compiling a book about Carrickfergus soldiers who served during the Great War and the picture was passed on to for inclusion by Councillor Billy Hamilton, a grand nephew of Mr McMurran.
